Effect Of Small Film Package On Cucumber Shelf-life And Its Mechanism

Cucumber cultivar"Bonai 13"was taken as the test material. 1, 2, and 3 cucumber fruit were packed with 0.008 mm and 0.012 mm LDPE membrane respectively and stored at room temperature. According to weight loss, hardness, fruit shape, and chlorophyll content, the best treatment was determined. On the basis, cucumber nutrition indicators (soluble solids content, soluble protein content, soluble sugar content, total acid content and reductive vitamin C content) and physiological indicators (the relative membrane permeability, MDA, SOD activity, POD activity, CAT activity, respiration rate and ethylene production rate ) were assayed. The feasibility of extending the shelf-life of cucumber by LDPE film package at room temperature was discussed, and the physiological mechanism was explored. The aim of this paper was to provide a better practical skill for extending cucumber's storage and transportation term, and cucumber's shelf life.And the main results showed that:(1) Membrane treatment could significantly improve the appearance of cucumber in the storage period, reducing weight loss, maintaining hardness and chlorophyll content. 0.012mm film packing 3 cucumber fruit was the best treatment above all others.(2) Film package could significantly reduce the cucumber nutrient loss with the best combination. Soluble protein content, soluble sugar content, total acid and reductive vitamin C content were higher than the control.(3) Film packaging could protect the integrity of cell membrane system, significantly increase SOD activity, suppress the synthesis of MDA, inhibit respiration rate and ethylene release, and then slow down the speed of aging .(4) We could infer that the fresh-keeping time of the packed cucumber fruit could extend up to 6 days or more.
