| Biological invasion is a global problem.Quarantine is one of the most effective measures to keep from the biological invasion. The bark beetles (Coleoptera:Scolytidae) are common pests of conifers and some attack broadleaf trees, and many species are easy to be transmitted from country to country via the external trades. A total 34 species of the family, Scolytidae, were intercepted at Kunshan Port. Among those 34 species, sixteen belonged to the genus Xyleborus, and most of the Xyleborus species were imported from Southeast Asian countries or areas. The sixteen Xyleborus species included X. ferrugineus, X. validus, X. saxeseni, X. monographus, X. pelliculosus, X. perforans, X. affinis, X. andrewesi, X. emarginatu, X. fornicatus, X. germanus Blandford, X. semiopacu, X. similis and X. ganshoensis. X. perforans, X. semiopacus, X. saxeseni, X. similis, X. affinis and X. germanus were the most common intercepted species among the sixteen species.Morphology of ten Xyleborus species intercepted at Kunshan Port were observed and compared. The ultrastructure of X. perforans was observed using scanning electron microscope and was compared with those of other 9 Xyleborus species. The analysis of the collected biological data showed that X. affinis and X. ferrugineus are possible to survive well in many areas in China, while these two species are not recorded in China. It is suggested that we should particularly pay more attentions to keep from the invasion of these two species. |
