Bsaed on provenance trials of Magnolia officinalis Guangxi, Hubei and Zhejiang province, main secondary metabolites and AFLP makers were studied which aimed to raveal the genetic diversity and genetic variation from provenances, families within provenances and individuals within the family. The major results were as follow:1. There were significant variations between provenances, the contents of Honokio,Magnolol and phenols is highest in Hubei province,Zhejiang is the lowest. Magnolia polyphenol content and appearance traits were significantly related, judging from the characteristics of tree classification of small convex tip (original form) were superior to other types of Magnolia.Traditional showed that the high quality of Magnolia officinalis should actually be attributed to their local varieties, There were not only significant differences in polyphenol content between provenances, but also in families in the same provenance and individuals in families.2. An efficient and stable AFLP analysis system was established for Magnolia, which was done by selection and optimization in the aspects of DNA template treatments, selective amplification conditions and so on to study the basis of genetic diversity Magnolia .3. There were significant variations between provenances, families within provenances and individuals within the family. Genetic diversity of Hubei Wufeng provenance is is more abundant at the molecular level than the others. There is also a rich genetic diversity between families in the same provenance, but not significant between provenances. There are the most significant genetic differentiations between individuals in families.Intraspecific genetic diversity in Magnolia results show that the Magnolia breeding strategy should pay full attention to the fine provenance, good family and good individuals.
