With the improvement of people's living standard, as well as the rhythm of life speeds up and the environment which we live in is polluted aggravatingly, people pay more attention to the health and recreation. Therefore, forest tourism emerges. Especially, forest eco-tourism with the goal of health and entertainment is developed rapidly. Yiling Forest Park in Yichang is developed in such a trend. Because the present forest park's plant landscape is monotonous and lack of features and cannot satisfy the traveling development, it is very necessary to re-plan and rebuild the park. The paper attempted to explore the features and function of forest parks in modern cities on the basis of the research of Yiling Forest Park's plant landscape. In this paper, based on the research and methodology of vegetation survey and plant landscape's designing at home and abroad, it reached some accomplishments as follows:(1) Through conducting a vegetation survey of Yiling Forest Park, it was found that Yiling District Forest Park's vegetation was rich in vascular plants, belonging to 105 branches, of which 7 branches were ferns,4 branches were gymnosperms,94 branches were angiosperms, with a total of 345 kinds. More than 50 species of ornamental plants were introduced, and there were three kinds of state protected plant II, namely the fragrant camphor tree of Camphor tree branch, camptotheca acuminate of Tupelo branch and wild soybean of Papilionaceae branch. Existing vegetation communities within the park were complex, and there were 14 main kinds of plant communities, for example, the coniferous forest, coniferous and broadleaf evergreen forest, coniferous and broadleaf of evergreen and deciduous forest, woodland shrub and so on.(2) It also found that existing plant landscape in Yiling District Forest Park was rather monotonous, except for the camphors as street trees, there were only lobular privet hedges, or pure camphor woodlands, and few rare plants as well as ornamental plants, moreover state-level protected plants were less than 1%, so the grade was not high.(3) Based on the investigation, the paper used the method of AHP to value the plant landscape of Yiling District Forest Park. With the establishment of the evaluation system for the forest park's plant landscape, it determined its evaluation factors and their weights, as well as the score criteria of evaluation factors. Based on the evaluation system, it did an objective and quantitative evaluation on the plant landscape of Yiling Forest Park, and came to that the evaluation score of the park's plant landscape was 18.82 points, and the value of comprehensive evaluation was 62.73%. Among the 17 evaluation factors, the plant landscape of Yiling Forest Park had higher scores in the adaptability of plants to the environment, species diversity, the configuration modes of plant landscape, and the richness of plants. But the scores were lower in the diversity of plants'ornamental characteristics, the suitability of plants to the regional theme, the cultural connotations of landscape plants, the diversity of plant landscape's constitution space and the plants'stress and indication function.(4) Based on the vegetation survey as well as the analysis and evaluation of existing plant landscape of Yiling Forest Park, the paper proposed five principles of the park's plant landscape transformation, namely nature-based and transformation-secondary principle, the overall optimization principle, scientific principle, the principle of landscape ecology and artistic principle. It also suggested the ways of combination of terrain design, creation of the characteristics of plant landscape and the transformation according to the region function and its cultural requirements. Finally it proposed Yiling Forest Park's overall transformation program and district transformation programs. With the development of the society and acceleration of urbanization, the connotation and meaning of city forest parks will be changed gradually. With the perception of the forest park's function, people will pay more attention to its ecological and health function. It is hoped that the research will be useful to the development and construction of forst parks.
