Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), also known as Blue-ear disease, is a highly contagious disease caused by Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). PRRS is characterized by reproductive failure of gestational sows and respiratory diseases of pigs of all ages, especially piglets. PRRSV is widespread in China and difficult to eradicate from the farm. Regular vaccination of pigs is currently major measures to control this epidemic. In early 2009, Hubei Province became one of pilot sites of the promotion of the highly pathogenic blue ear pig disease vaccine (JXA1-R strain) promotional phase generalized by the Ministry of Agriculture. And from July to November in the same year, vaccinal promotion experimentation was carried out at 4 Cities of Tianmen, Ezhou, Wuxue and Jinshan. To evaluate the feasibility of promotional use of the pathogenic blue-ear pig disease vaccine (JXA1-R strain), using live vaccines from four vaccines companies to test the safety and immune effects at the eight farms of four cities, respectively. Following works were cayyied out and mentioned below.1. The survey to the background of pig that used for the experiment, epidemic disease monitoring was cayyied out before the living vaccine immunes. Four out of eight farms were injected with PRRS vaccine. The PRRSV antibody level was 0-96.7%. Among them, two samples from number one pig farm were positive for the PRRSV classical strains.2. After the injection of vaccine, the clinical response and health status of the experimental pigs were observed. Live vaccine (JXA1-R strain) showed a good safety.3. Using ELISA to monitor their serum antibody levels.21 days after immunization, the antibody pass rate is 85.3%.28 to 120 days after immunization. Antibody pass rate is above 90%.4. The monitoring for the detoxification situation of serum applied to fluorescence RT-PCR.60 days after immunization, vaccine virus were not detected form serum samples.
