Evaluation Of Shenyang Stroke Scale

Purpose:To evaluate the feasibility, reliability and validity of Shenyang Stroke Scale.Material and method:We took patients with Phlegm-stasis and yin deficiency in restoration stage of ischemic stroke and patients at acute stage of isehemie stroke as the study object, then evaluated the scale:feasible analyses including rates of scale completion, duration for scale completion, and floor or ceiling effect; reliability including Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and test-retest reliability; validity including content validity, construct validity and criterion-related validity; and discriminate validity from patients with Phlegm-stasis and yin deficiency in restoration stage of ischemic stroke and patients at acute stage of isehemie stroke.Results:A total of 100% subjects completed the instrument, and Consciousness orientation force, Commands, Visual Field, Drinking, Motor Hand(right), Motor Foot(both sides), Limb Ataxia, Washing-up, Insomnia(initial), Insomnia(middle), Insomnia(delayed), Depressed mood, Anxiety(psychic) were with ceiling effect. Heavy housework and Gainful work were with floor effect.The Cronbach’s α for the instrument, neurological deficit dimension, activities of daily living dimension and mental dimension was 0.869、0.614、0.928、0.848 respectively. The test-retest reliability for the instrument,neurological deficit dimension, activities of daily living dimension and mental dimension was 0.917、0.936、0.893、0.988 respectively.The Spearman correlation coefficient between the items which included Drinking, Motor Hand(both sides), Motor Foot(right) and all the items of activities of daily living dimension and mental dimension and the dimension they belong to were all above 0.4. The Spearman correlation coefficient between the items which included Drinking, Motor Hand(both sides), MotorFoot(right) and a part of items of activities of daily living dimension and all the items of mental dimension and the dimension they didn’t belong to were all below 0.4. Eight factors were extracted through the exploratory factor analysis, the cumulative proportion of variance was 72.029%. According the relevant knowledge, the eight factors were into three factors, which were accordance with the hypithesized dimensions. The neurological deficit dimension was related with NIHSS(P=0.000), the Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.775. Items of this instrument could distinguish different people well.Conclusion:Shenyang Stroke Scale was validated and reliable. However, the neurological deficit dimension needed further study.
