Yin disease(pleural effusion) is an important disease of traditional Chinese medicine clinic, and also one of the important contents of basic research in clinical medicine. Academic study of Yin disease, is also an important part of the theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine yin disease academic, since the Spring and Autumn period to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, through constant innovation and summary done by generations of doctors, the content of its academic study is quite rich with macroscopic beauty. This thesis paper is to apply means of historiography and philology and to sum up the existing studies of Yin disease made by representative doctors in ancient China. Through analyzing the problems, distinguishing the academic study, seeking the end, and examining the source, evolutional rules of the academic study history of Yin disease will be extracted, and its outline will be sketched out.Origin and Development of Yin Disease Academic StudyWith the transition and development of history, doctors from different periods had placed respective emphasis on the understanding and research of Yin disease. And based on the extensive and profound TCM academic study, Yin disease has gathered many of its academic schools. This thesis now aims to introduce several typical studies from previous ages so that researchers nowadays can have own stands during their studies and practice.Xia, Shang and Zhou DynastiesIn this period, Chinese medicine has accumulated a certain amount of experiences on human body, disease, treatment, health and medicine, and formed the initial simple medical theory. However, in the literature or cultural relics found so far in ancient and the Xia and Shang Dynasties period, there is no direct record of Yin diseaseSpring and Autumn and the Warring States PeriodIn this period, "Huang Di Nei Jing(The Inner Canon of Huangdi)" theory of disease first talked about Yin disease. Its academic study thus began.Qin and Han DynastiesFrom "Huang Di Nei Jing(The Inner Canon of Huangdi)" to Zhongjing, the academic study of Yin disease gradually took place and was formed into an independent system, which laid the theoretical foundation for the later development of the disease theory. Therefore, the Qin and Han Dynasties was the formation of Yin disease academic.Wei and Jin Dynasties to the Northern and Southern DynastiesIn this period, doctors expanded new fields for Yin disease academic study, like Wang Shuhe establishing diagnosis system, Huang Fumi created the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment system, and Ge Hong created the monograph for the first time. In this period, more attention was paid to phlegm disease than Yin disease: new understandings and explications, rich academic contents, and representatives like Jin Yuan Four Masters and Wang Gui.Ming and Qing DynastiesDuring the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Confucianism and medicine were honored. And therefore TCM came to a period of comprehensive induction and conclusion, when scholars and doctors appeared one after another, and works and studies showed unprecedented scale. In this period, the main academic physicians from Yin disease were also summarized comprehensively.
