Apocynaceae is one of the important families of tropical flora, distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions around the world and a few in temperate zones. Of it, there are about250genera, more than2,000species, and China has46genera about176species,33varieties, while only33genera about70species can be used as medicine. Epigynum Wight is one genus of Apocynaceae, about14species, mainly distributed in Malaysia and Myanmar, and in China there is only one species, produced in the southern Yunnan named E.auritum Tsiang et P.T.Li. Furthermore, Local Dai people used the bark of it boied in water as food or medicine. The food or medicine has the function of clearing head, detoxicate analgesic and other effects, but so far its chemical components are only reported from the extracts of acetone and ethyl acetate. In the thesis, Epigynum, from Yunnan Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve, the extracts of n-butanol from Epigynum auritum as the research object, its chemical constituents were isolated, purified and identified for further research to provide the basis of active substances for the herb in order to be used in modern medicine. By all means of column chromatography such as normal-phase silica gel column, and macroporous resin column, the chemical constituents from the extracts of n-butanol from Epigynum auritum, were put into research. By modern spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, ESI-MS, UV,12compounds were identified from the extracts of n-butanol from Epigynum auritum. These compounds were made up of four derivates of gallic acid, four sugar and its derivatives, two ceramide compounds, one alkaloids, one β-daucosterol. They were (E)-3-(6-methoxy-l-methyl-lH-indol-3-yl) acrylaldehyde (1), β-daucosterol (2), Halicerebroside (3),(2S,3S,4R)-Phytosphingosine (4),1-Methyl-D-samentos (5), n-butyl2,6-dideoxy-a-D/L-xylo-hexopyranoside (6), a-L-Digitoxopyranosyl(1→4)-(3-D-digitoxopyranose (7), a-Methyl-L-is[a-methyl-D-fructopyranosyl(1-2),(1-3)]-arabino-furanose (8),2-(3’,4’,5’)-trimethoxyphenyl-2-hydroxyl ethyl acetate (9),3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzoate (10),(Z)-5-(3’,5’-dimethoxyphenyl-4’-hydroxy)-2-ene pentanoate (11), methyl gallate (12), respectively. Of them, compound11is a new compound, meanwhile, compound6is a new natural product, furthermore, compound6is a2,6-dideoxy monosaccharide, and there have been many reports in the literature about its antibacterial and anti-tumor activities. In addition, four derivates of gallic acid have been separated, which have some medicinal value as well. To some certain extent, these findings could provide material basis for the development of botanicals.
