Pinus massoniana is the unique local species of trees in the subtropical area of our country. It distributes most broadly and keeps the most abundant resources in our country. It is not only the valuable pioneer species for planting the barren hill in our country, it is also the important species of trees for timber wood, the paper-making, and natural biological energy. In this thesis paper we present the research findings of provenance trial in 8-year P. massoniana forest stands in Guiyang County. Discussed is the hereditary-variation laws of the various provenances in terms of the diameter breast-high, the tree height, the timber volume, the clear length and the crown width. The breeding strategy of this conifer in Hunan Province is proposed. In addition, the relations to the vegetative reproduction and the clonal breeding is elaborated of Pinus massoniana, and the use of modern biotechnology in P. massoniana breeding is illustrated.(1)The difference of the diameter breast-high, the tree height, and the timber volume was remarkable in the 44 tested young provenance stands. Each growth character's heritability was high, the heritabilities of the diameter breast-high, the tree height, and the timber volume achieved 40.61%, 39.53% and 32.79%, respectively. At the same time, each growth character's hereditary variation coefficient is big, which indicated that these differences which exist in the growth was mainly in the control of heredity. The form-nature character differences of the clear length and the crown width was not remarkable, also the heritabilities was low, each being 4.78%, 9.18%, respectively.(2) We carried the correlation analysis for 5 characters such as the diameter breast-high, the tree height, the timber volume, the clear length and the crown width. The results indicated that the diameter breast-high, the tree height and the timber volume has remarkable correlation, and the correlation coefficient of the diameter breast-high and the tree height was also big. Except that the tree height and the clear length, the clear length and the crown width did not have the remarkable correlation(this mainly was as a result of the density restriction), other each characters remarkably were connected. Obviously, the growth character of Pinus massoniana had the high relevance. If you carried on the choice to growth character, you would be able to have the remarkable direct effect to other two characters.
