In order to learn the mechanisms of endosperm development in different type maize (waxy, sweet, pop and normal) grain,four types maize were carried out in the corn research garden of Shandong Agriculture University. The physiological index,microstructure and ultrastructure were mensurated.The result were as follows:1.The mechanisms of different yield in different type maize Proportion of endosperm in grain was different in different maize,the order was nomal>waxy>pop>sweet.In four type maize,the size of the endosperm cell was different in different period.In forepart,the cell size of Huangnuo1 was the largest,and later Yuyu22 was the largest and the size of Baolie1 was the minimal during whole period.In the end,the cell size was nomal>waxy>pop>sweet.The proliferation process of endosperm cell could be better modeled with Richards equation.The endosperm cell number of different cultivars had significant difference.It showed that the endosperm cell number of Yuyu22 was the greatest,the endosperm cell number of Huangnuo1 was the smallest,the Tianyu6 and the Baolie1 were between other two cultivars. For the same type maize the endosperm cell number was significantly related to grain weight,but for the different type maize the grain weight was not mainly determined by the number of endosperm cell number.It also be showed the size of starch grain in Huangnuo1 was the largest at 10d,and the size of starch grain in Yuyu22 was the largest at maturation period,the size of starch grain in Tianyu6 was the minimal during whole period.And the content of starch was waxy>nomal>pop>sweet.So the yield of endosperm was determined by the size of endosperm cell and the cell number first,and then it was also related to the filling status of the cells, such as starch accumulation.These factors affected the grain weight together.2. 2 The difference of formative mechanisms in different maize endospermThe rate of cutin grain in different type maize was different.Endosperm of pop almost was cutin,but in waxy almost was starchy endosperm.The rate of cutin grain in sweet was higher than it in nomal.The reason was various.The content of inclusion was affected characteristics of quality of four type maize endosperm.
