Aiming at breeding problem of confectionary sunflower, the heterosis and combining ability of confectionary sunflower major traits were studied. The results showed that:â‘ The seed yield and 1000-grains weight in 3 yield-components represented stronger heterosis than the rate of seed produced, and 80% cross combinations had the super predominance than their parents; the plants height, head diameter and leaf number in 4 morphological characters of hybrids had the over-middle predominance except the stem diameter, and the leaf number had the super predominance apparently; the average over-middle predominance of growth period was lower.â‘¡The yield of hybrids was positively correlated with the ordinary combining ability and special combining ability of their parents, and was controlled by the no-additive effect and the special combining ability; the 1000-grains weight was controlled by additive variance and ordinary combining ability variance; the additive effect and no-additive effect of the rate of seed produced and seed number per head were seemly important; the seed set rate was controlled by the additive effect of gene and ordinary combining ability.â‘¢The relationship between the yield characters and morphological characters/growth period was caused by the seed yield/grain number per head and stem length/ leaf number with the canonical correlation analysis. The above results can be use as scientific evidences for breeding hybrids of confectionary sunflower.
