In order to study the relationships between the cane quality, maturity and the activities of the enzymes related to the sucrose metabolism in sugarcane, six sugarcane varieties were planted as the experimental materials. Some characters related to cane quality in stalk and internodes were analyzed in different stages. The activities of sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS), sucrose synthase (SS), acid invertase (AI) and neutral invertase (NI) which were closely related to the sucrose metabolism in the internodes were analyzed. The results showed as follows.In plant cane, the activities of SPS and AI were significantly different in different varieties, internodes and sampling dates. The activity of AI was the lowest in ROC20 which showed especially early maturing and very high sucrose content, obviously higher in RB72-454 which showed middle-early maturing and relatively lower sucrose content and in ROC22 which showed relatively later sucrose accumulation in the up...
