Using temperate race and tropical race as parents in the experiment, we studied the ear character and genetic diversity. The main result was as followed:(1) As for all sorts of contribution of gene effects, difference existed among different traits, dominant effect was maximum for number of kernel, contribution of additive was maximum for kernel rows. The dominant effect was more important than the additive effect in ear length, ear diameter, number of kernel per row, grain yields. Additive X additive was positive for grain yields.(2) Additive effect and dominance effect gene effects were position, whose variance contributed to total genetic variance 73.8%—93. 5%.(3) Epistasis was important for certain combination, the heredity of all the traits conformed to the genetic model of the additive - dominace - epistasis. But it as for all contribution of gene effects, difference existed among different traits, contribution was compared: ear length >ear diameter> number of kernel per row> grain yields.(4) The result was as followed, gene effects was significant of temperate X tropical crosses in maize, By replying cross will be increasing content to use the temperate race excellent characteristic.
