This experiment was carried out to explore the optimal ending points of soil water irrigation at the time of seedling and fruit-bearing of plastic shed tomato in South China. On the different ending points of soil water irrigation(80%, 85%. 90%, 95%. 100%), the following items were studied: the morphological and physiological indexes and the demand of water in seedling period, the physiological index ,total yield and quality of tomato, and the demand of water in fruit-bearing period, which was supposed to present efficient reference for greenhouse tomato save irrigation and the expert-decision-making system in South China , especially in Chongqing .The main results were as followings:1,On the ending point of soil water irrigation of 95% in seedling period, the tomato seedling showed the strongest root activity, the highest content of free water and ratio of free water to binding water, and the best seedling index with the largest diameter, the tallest height and the heaviest dry matter.2,in the seedling period, with the increase of ending point of soil water irrigation within the range of 80%~95%, photosynthesis rate and transpiration rate both increased, and so with ending point of soil water irrigation within the range of 80%~90% in the fruit-bearing period; within the range of 95%~100%, transpiration rate increased whereas photosynthesis rate decreased, and so with the increase of ending point of soil water irrigation within the range of 90% ~ 100% in the fruit-bearing period.3,In the seedling and fruit-bearing period, water effective utilization rate was best on the ending point of soil water irrigation of 90%.4,The heaviest average mass of single fruit, the optimal tomato yield and economic yield per cubic water, and the best increase production rate were obtained on the ending point of soil water irrigation of 90%.5,On the ending point of soil water irrigation of 90%, the content of Vc, soluble protein and soluble solid was highest and the fiber lowest, and the ratio of sugar to acid was best with the highest...
