A Study On The Cutting And Skidding Method Of Larch Plantations

Larch is the primary fast growing tree species for forestation in north forest region of China. After 50 years forestation, the larch plantations have already became near-mature forest or mature forest and been the important commercial forest base now. At present, productive operation on larch plantations was carried out in north forest region of China. Because of the differences of resource condition between manmade forest and natural forest, which are simplex species and the structure of standing forest, lack of vegetation on forest land, and small diameter-class of standing forest, the traditional cutting and skidding technique of natural forest is not suitable for the resource condition of manmade forest. So it is necessary and important to study on the cutting and skidding technique that is suitable for the larch plantations in north China.In this paper, the larch plantations in Dailing forest enterprise of Heilongjiang Province were chose as experimental field. The experimental field was divided into felling experimental area, and the experimental method and survey method were used. According to a large scale of data analysis, the operation efficiency and operation cost of different cutting and skidding method were compared and the relatedness of the cutting and skidding efficiency, gathering distance, gathering time, and skidding quantity per skidding circle were quantitatively analyzed. The effects of tractor skidding and animal skidding on the physical property of the soil and the remained seedlings on the forest site were compared through sampling the soil and investigating the remained seedlings. The result of analysis showed that the effects of J-50 tractor skidding on the physical property of the forest soil and the remained seedlings were worse than that of animal skidding.According to the results above, a comprehensive evaluation was carried out on the cutting and skidding method of larch plantations on gentle slope. From the standpoint of combination of economic benefits and ecological benefits, a hierarchical model was established and finally a conclusion was given out that the selective cutting and animal skidding is the suitable cutting and skidding method for larch plantations on gentle slope. It provides a scientific foundation for the decision department of forest operation to choose the suitable cutting and skidding method of larch plantations.
