In order to breed new forage crop variety of good characters combining Sorghum with Sudangrass, 9 interspecific hybrids were obtained via crossing between male-sterile line Sorghum 11A, 314A, 13A and black hull Sudangrass, white hull Sudangrass, brown hull Sudangrass respectively, and F2 and F3 were obtained via planting and selecting in filed. The main characters of hybrids F1~F3, such as growth-development, yield, photosynthesis capability, chromosome pairing configuration and proxidase isozyme (POD) zynograms phenotype and so on, were analyzed and compared. The results showed that:①Hybrids F1 of 9 cross combinations between Sorghum 11A, 314A, 13A and Sudangrass thrived, and were stronger in photosynthesis capability, the plant heights were 343 cm to 369 cm, the tillering number per plant were 6.0 to 9.0, the yield of fresh grass was increased by 11.37% to 32.73% than their male parents, heterosis was 12.83% to 48.68%, ear types were in the middle of their parents, its stems stayed green while seed matured, the growth periods were 126 to 137 days, the pollen sterility rates were above 91%, the natural seed set rates were 62.34% to 68.75%.②The traits were separated in hybrids F2 population, the growth periods delayed from 6 to 12 days than hybrids F1, the tillering number per plant and pollen sterility rate declined a little.③14 strains of 3 hybrids F3 between Sorghum 11A and Sudangrass performed prominently, the breeding potential of hybrids F3 between Sorghum 314A and black hull Sudangrass and hybrids F3 between Sorghum 13A and brown hull Sudangrass were great; the content of Cyanide in fresh stems and leaves of tested strains (or colony) of hybrids F3 were 15.1 mg/kg to 29.4 mg/kg, the Brix were 4.0% to 5.2%.④The chromosome pairing in pollen mother cells at metaphaseⅠ(PMCMⅠ) was regular, the chromosome configurations was 2n=2x=10Ⅱ, and the frequency of rod bivalent was higher than that of their parents.⑤The proxidase isozyme (POD) zynograms phenotype at heading stage and the POD zynograms phenotype of separated ears of different types in all cross combinations can be used as genetic markers for selecting excellent strains in cross generation.
