| A 2-yrs experiment from 2003 to 2004 was carried out at the maize Scien-tech zone of Shandong Agricultural University. The perennial legume forage– alfalfa was regarded as the researching object. Three aspects were researched mainly in the experiment: (1) Formation mechanism of yield and forage quality of alfalfa; (2) Effects of nitrogen regulation on seed yield and the plant characteristic of Zhongmu1; (3) Effects of nitrogen regulation on yield and forage nutritive quality and the mechanism of regeneration after clipping of Zhongmu1. Alfalfa was cultured in field and plots, and the analysis of physiology and biochemistry was applied in the lab. The mechanism of regeneration after clipping and the regulation and control measures of high yield and high quality were studied. Through two years' research, main results were obtained as follows:1. Mechanism of yield formation and forage quality of alfalfa Under the condition of field, the seed yield of Zhongmu1 was 5.63g per plant, the seed yield of Affinity was 5.01g per plant.The fresh yield and dry yield of Zhongmu1 was higher than that of Affinity, with the added numbers of clipping, the yield was falling by degrees. The yield of first harvest stage was the highest in the 4 harvests both Zhongmu1 and Affinity, which was dominant in the composition of yield.The macroelement in organization of over ground, the highest N accumulation was brought at setting-pod stage, the accumulation of total plant Zhongmu1 was higher than that of Affinity at ripening stage, which was similar with Ca, Mg, S.
