With the development of biotechnology, safety of transgeinccrops has become concerned issue by more and more people. So far, there are two completely different notions between the proponents and the opponents to apply the transgenic crops. It's still not sure that the transgenic crops will destroy our environment or not. The transgenic technology will produce some new combination, new character which we cann't find in the conventional breeding. Whether these issues will affect the environment and the health of the human being, we have not had enough knowledge and experience to testify.Microbial populations in the rhizosphere and the phyllosphere of tobacco and transgenic tobacco with cecropin D were compared. Owing to the lower percentage of species taxonomically identified and cultured, we used both colony calculation and molecular approach to analyse the diversity of soil microbes. The result showed that transgenic tobacco with the cecropin D gene affected the bacterial colony numbers remarkably, the fungus take the second place. The streptomyces population was not affected. Through the study of the genetic diversity of soil microbes, we can see that the diversity of the total DNA is not significantly different between the soils of non-transgenic tobacco and transgenic tobacco with the cecropin D gene. The same is the diversity of the population of soil bacteria. The result of the phyllosphere showed that the transgenic tobacco was not the main factors influencing the change of the microbial community. Here we combined the conventional culture method and the molecular approaches trying to provide this disputation with some insighting data.
