Objective: To study the effect of compound codonopsis on immunity function in chickens. Methods: 240 Haline White Chickens, being clinical healthy and having even weight, were randomly divided into 8 groups, 30 for each group.of them, the former four groups (group 1~4) are in the Physiological condition. Group 1-3 were as the natural experimental groups which were fed respectively the diets containing 1% of the Compound Codonopsis 1,sijunzhang and Compound Codonopsis 2., group 4 is blank. The latter four groups (group 5-8) are in the Immunosuppressant condition,which were caused by cyclophophamide. Group 5-7 were as the immuno-suppression experimental groups which were fed respectively the diets containing 1% of the Compound Codonopsis 1.sijunzitang and Compound Codonopsis 2., group 8 is the blank of immuno-suppression.The experiment lasted for four weeks. determined targets: The index of thymus, The index of spleen, The index of Bursa of Fabricius The rates of transformation of lymphocyte (T,B) the content of IgA,IgG,IgM in serum The titers of NDHI antibodyResults:?0f the former four groups (group 1~4), all the targets which were determined in group l~3 are markedly higher than those in control group(group 4) (P<0.01).And that all the targets determined in group 1 are markedly higher than those in group 2 and group 3(P<0.01 or P<0.05).(2) Of the latter four groups (group 5-8), all the targets which were determined in group 5-7 are markedly higher than those in the immuno-suppression control group(group 8) (P<0.01 or P<0.05).And that all the targets determined in group 5 are markedly higher than those in group 6 and group 7(P<0.05).(3)Some of the targets determined in group 5 in some days are higher or markedly higher than those in group 4,even group 3. Conclusion: This study shows that the compound codonopsis 1 can markedly increase the immunity function in chickens whether the chickens are in the Physiological condition or in the Immunosuppressant condition.
