Objective:The experiment was to investigate the characters of extruded feed and make the suitable diets to Beagle and Rhesus monkey instead of traditional diets. It can not only increase the nutrient level and the quality of animals, but a necessary basis on standardization in feed. Methods:We measured the quantity of proximate composition and microbe in the extruded feed and the mixture powder after the mix was extruded by a single-screw extruder (SLP-85, Made in Shanghai). Laboratory animals were divided into three groups called Exp., Con. and Xishan. Animals in the Exp. and Con. groups were fed with the extruded feed and the traditional diet which were made from the same mixture; meanwhile we raised the left with the other traditional diets made in Xishan Laboratory Animal Center. The weights of animal were recorded on schedule.Result:After mono-screw extrusion process, no statistical significance of the nutrients was found except moisture and crude fat decreased obviously. Compared with the mixture powder, there were fewer microbes in the extruded feed. In animal test, we found extruded feed resulted in statisticallysignificant improvements in the animal' s weight-gain and the two kinds of traditional diet had the same feeding effect. Conclusion:The results of experiment suggest that the extrusion technology can be successfully applied to diets for the laboratory animal such as Beagle and Rhesus. Compared with traditional diet, extruded feed is more efficient and convenient in standardization, preservation, transportation and sterilization.
