In these years, the bamboo industry has been developing rapidly, especially the timber processing and pulp-making with bamboo, which has become one of the important industries in China . However, there are still many problems which need resolving now. The first is that only a few bamboo species have been exploited, and the second is that the timber yield is still low which has prevented the development of bamboo industry. The Bambusa wenchouensis (Wen) Q. H. Dai is one of sympodial bamboo species. It was reported that its timber output could reach 60 t ·hm-2 for normal managing stand. In order to resolve the problems in bamboo industry, it is important to find bamboo species of high output. That is why B. wenchouensis has been studied. Compared with Moso bamboo and B. textilis McClure which have good property and are utilized widely, the B. wenchouensis was studied including biomass structure, culm form, physical and mechanical property, chemical property and fibre forms. The result of culm form, physical and mechanical property studying showed that it had high culm and long internode of 50~65cm; compared with Moso bamboo, its culm height, culm fresh weight and wall thickness were higher, in the same time its culm taper was lower; its wood density was a little smaller (basic density reached 0.618 g·cm-3 ) , and shrinkage, swelling and water absorption ratio were a bit bigger; its mechanical properties were almost equal to Moso bamboo. It was advised that B. wenchouensis could be utilized as bamboo board material. The result of chemical composition and fiber forms test showed that its content of holocellulose (72.19% ) was high, however the lignin content(22.64%) , 1% NaOH extractive and benzene-alcohol extractive were low or equal relatively; its fiber length reached 2.24mm, L/W and fiber tissue measurement were high. Compared with B. textilis McClure, B. wenchouensis had equal property as paper-making material. So it could be utilized to produce pulp. Facing the bamboo industry condition and based on the characteristics and advantages of B. wenchouensis, the exploiture and utilization are constructive for resolving bamboo industry problems, bamboo farmer earning, soil using and multiform utilization of bamboo species. Therefore, it is advised to plant B. wenchouensis.
