This research selected four different types of maize seeds (32 hybrids in all) as experimental materials to study the following aspects of maize seeds: the physical property and structural differences, imbibitions and protrusion characteristics, germination and seedling establishment characteristics, effect on germination and seedling establishment of different sowing depth and illumination conditions, and correlativity among biology characteristics. The results are as follows:There is a significant correlation (P<0.01) between volume and weight of maize seeds. 100-kernel weight of waxy type seeds is the lightest, also of the volume; 100-kernel volume of dent type seeds is the biggest, the same as the weight. The correlation between specific gravity and embryo dry weight proportion is negative, while the correlation between water content and crest dry weight proportion is positive. There is no obvious differentiation in different types of maize seeds. Different parts of maize seeds have different dry weight proportion, aberrance of context and crest is the most, there is an observably negative correlation among endosperm dry weight proportion and crest dry weight proportion, cortex dry weight proportion and embryonic dry weight proportion account for the whole seed dry weight, embryonic dry weight proportion of waxy type maize seeds is the least, and its endosperm dry weight proportion is the most; embryonic dry weight proportion of half-waxy type maize seeds is the most, and its endosperm dry weight proportion is the least. The proportion of embryo proportion to endosperm proportion is positive .while correlation to the embryonic dry weight proportion, is negative correlation to the endosperm dry weight proportion. The changes in the course of imbibitions and protrusion through absorbing water of different types maize seeds in different temperature conditions accord to logarithm function y=aLn(x)+ b, but the difference among the required time, the changes of seed's water content and the max protrusion rate in the course of maize seed's imbibition and protrusion through absorbing water in different temperature conditions is higher. Also the changes in the course of imbibition and protrusion through absorbing steam of different types of maize seeds accord to logarithm function y=aLn(x)+ b, the minimal water content of maize seeds protrusion under saturation air humidity conditions at 30°C is the threshold. There is a relationship among the course of seeds' absorbing water and seeds 100-kernel weight, 100-kernel volume, original water content, cortex dry weight...
