In the experiment, maize (NongDa 108) plants were grown on plot with soil in a greenhouse, and have enough water and nutrient. The rule that describe the character of root system architecture (such as branch density, branch density of length, single root length and diameter) were obtained by making an analysis root system of the maize seedling. And the root system of maize seedlings had been simulated. The important contents of this thesis are as follows.(1) In the same layer, the percent of each single root in the entirely layer was showed the rule of descending through weighting. For example, the percent of each node roots dry matter of seminal rootsis 40±7%, 22±2%, 18±3%, 10±2%, 6±3%, 2± 2%. It is different with the number of seminal roots in different plant.(2) By making an analysis to scanning picture of root system of maize seedlings in five time sampling, it was obtained that the diameter of each layer node roots and each order lateral roots. And it was analyzed that the single maize root length and unbranched base length and unbranched apical length of each layer and each order roots. The results was showed, the single root length is increasing besides primary roots.(3) By the unitariness of branched zone of maize roots, it was discovered that the branch density was increasing along with root layer and descending along with root grown. The branch density the 1st order lateral root of the 1st layer was little much than of seminal roots. The average branch density of the 1st order lateral root in the same type roots was little changed in the every sampling. The branch density of length of the same type roots was increasing along with root grown, but the branch density of length of every layer roots have not increasing along with root layer, and it was a large change with different time.(4) Using the 3D spatial coordinate that was obtained from 3D digital instrument, it was analyzed and discovered the direction of main roots at the plane was uniformity. The angle between main roots and main stem was showed the normal distribution (44, 182). And this angle was become smaller alone with root layer.(5) Based on the achieved the characteristic parameters of root system, three dimension visualization is realized by GTDRoot model of our laboratory. The comparison between observed data and the simulated results of root length that was output by model was been performed. The simulated results fit quite well with the observed data.
