| Honglian(HL) type CMS lines(Indica) differed from wild abortive(WA) type CMS lines(Indica) not only in characteristic of abortive pollen but also in restoring and maintaining abilities. Some maintainer lines of WA type CMS lines may be restorer lines of HL type CMS lines, at the same time some maintainer lines of HL type CMS lines was probably restorer lines of WA type CMS lines. Here we have conducted to compare genetic analysis of fertility restoration of two CMS lines with maintainer line varieties.The present study attempted to make clear whether maintainer line to Zhenshan97B of WA type CMS line had restoring power for HL type CMS line YuetaiA and whether maintainer line to YuetaiB of HL type CMS line had restoring power for WA type CMS line Zhenshan97A. Furthermore genetic analysis of fertility restoration of Zhenshan97B for HL type CMS line YuetaiA and YuetaiB for WA type CMS line Zhenshan97A was conducted by using hybrid combinations between the two CMS lines and maintainer lines, The results were summarized as follows:1. Most of HL type CMS line pollen was spherical abortion type while as for the pollen of the population FI of HL type CMS line YuetaiA/Zhenshan97B, the percentage of typical abortion type(24.1%) and stained abortion type (22.5%)was apparently higher than that of spherical abortion type(12.8%). In addition, there existed 1/24 sterile plants among the population F2. All these findings could not be satisfactorily with the single gene model of gametophytic serility.By analyzing of pollen fertility of the populations FI and FI of YuetaiA/Zhenshan97B, and other kind of crosses (YuetaiA//YuetaiA7Zhenshan97B, YuetaiA//Zhenshan97A/Zhenshan97B, YuetaiA//YuetaiB/Zhenshan97B) and their parents, was inferred: a three gene model controlling the fertility inheritance of YuetaiA/Zhenshan97B, the genotype of HL type CMS line YuetaiA was rf-lrf-lRf-2Rf-2rf-3rf-3; the genotype of Zhenshan97B is Rf-lRf-lrf-2rf-2Rf-3Rf-3, which had normal restoring power for HL type CMS line YuetaiA; the effect of 3 dominant genes showed Rf-l>Rf-2>Rf-3, each Rf gene had not complete restoring power(the pollen with only Rf-1 gene was stained abortion type, the pollen with only Rf-2 gene was spherical abortion type, and the pollen with only Rf-3 gene was typical abortion type.). There is complementation effect among them; Rf genes had also dose effect, the sporophyte with number of Rf gene affected the fertility of identical gene-type gametophytes.According to the model, the population of HL YuetaiA/Zhenshan97B produced 8 kinds of gametophytes. Among them the gametophytes with Rf-lrf-2rf-3 or rf-lRf-2Rf-3 was stained abortion type, accounting for 25% of the total; the gametophytes with rf-lrf-2Rf-3 or rf-lrf-2rf-3 was typical abortion type, accounting for 25% of the total; the gametophytes with rf-lRf-2rf-3 was spherical abortion type, accounting for 12.5% of the total; and the gametophytes with Rf-lRf-2Rf-3, Rf-lRf-2rf-3 or Rf-lrf-2Rf-3 was normal, accounting for 37.5% of the total. The percentage of every pollen in the total was completely consistent with the results generated from the study. With regard to the population F2 of HL YuetaiA/Zhenshan97B, the plants with Rf-lrf-lrf-2rf-2Rf-3rf-3 was sterile. There were 1/24 completely sterile plants among the population ?2 because the pollen with Rf-lrf-2Rf-3 could not develop normal gametophytes for the dose of Rf was very small.2. Through the analysis of pollen fertility of the populations Fl and F2 of WA Zhenshan97A/YuetaiB, WA Zhenshan97A//WA Zhenshan97A/YuetaiB, WA Zhenshan 97A//YuetaiB/Zhenshan97B, and their parents, the fertility restoration of the HL type maintainer line YuetaiB for WA type CMS line Zhenshan97A was controlled by a incomplete dominant major gene and the hybrid showed genetic characteristic of sporophytic male sterility.3.
