| Iris lactea Pall. var. chinensis (Fisch.) Koidz. is a kind plant of wide-spread distribution. Because of its beautiful and specially shaped, it is preferable in viewing and admiring as garden plants. It is also used for ecological environment control since its drought-, salt- and cold-tolerance characteristics. The seed of Iris lactea var. chinensis is often dormancy caused by seed coat or by embryo.Experiment demonstrated that the seed germinated better in darkness than in light, and the alternating temperature (30@/20@) than constant (25@)temperature, and on the sand than on the filter paper.The seeds can be scarified by putting them in 40%(weight/weight) sodium hydroxide for 20 hours at the temperature of 32@. Seed coat is effectively removed and exogenous dormancy can be broken. Prechilling at temperature 7*C for 40 days can further improve germination and the germination rate at last can reach 81.5% in 14 days. |
