The non-ethylene-sensitivity flower -Gladiolus hybridus cv. Mascagni was used as material in the experiment. After cut flower were harvested ,we treated them with fundmental preservative and scavengers of activeoxygen(sodium beazoate, mannitol) or exogenous active (sodium thiosulfateanhydrous). On the bases of investigation of ornamental quality and vase life .we determined the productive rate of superoxide radical, the activities of SOD and CAT ,the ethylene evolution ,the content of soluble protein and malonyldialdehyde, the membrane permeability in order to study the active oxygen metabolism of non-ethylene-sensitivity fiowers, discuss the relationship between active oxygen and the formation of ethylene. explain the cause of cut flower senescence and provide basic theory for the application of scavengers of active oxygen in fresh-keeping . The main results were shown as follows :1.The ornamental quality and vase life of cut flowers were greatly increased when they were held in the preservative including scavengersof active oxygen. The effect of our preservative is better than that of basicpreservative. After the treatment, the blossom rate of florets - average ornamental value and vase life were obviously higher than those in control .(Tested by SSR method, a =0.05)2.Compared with control, though exogenous active oxygen increased the blossom rate of florets of cut gladiolus in some extent,it promoted the senescence of cut flower.3. Non-erhylene-sensitivity flowers- cut gladiolus were also affected by exogenous ethylene ,and they showed the appearance of "sleepiness".4. The productive rate of superoxide radical , the content of ethyl ene,MDA, membrane permeability , ethylene evolution of cut flower treated byscavengers of active oxygen were lower than those of control ,and the activity of SOD.CAT,the content of soluble protein were higher than those of control . 5.. Active oxygen took effect in the formation of ethylene. 6. Besides ,the fresh-keeping effects and possible mechanism of scavengers of active oxygen were discussed in this paper.
