Kelp "901" is a hybrid of Llongissima (as female )and Laminariajaponica (as male). With characteristics of growing fast, high temperature tolerance and decline-rot resistance, its yield is over 60% higher than that of general varieties. It has been approved by National Aqutic Fine Variety approved Committee and obtained variety certificate. And it has won the first prize of Sci-Tech Progress by Ministry of Agriculture and the second prize of National Sci-Tech Progress and are determined as an aqutic fine variety suitable for popularizing in the whole country. This present paper is to probe into the biochemical genetic background, economic and ecological characters, and basic components of 901 and general kelps. Accordingly, culturing measures are concluded.7 enzymes experiment on sporophore of 901, Llongissima, Laminariajaponica, 860, Rongl and a wild seaweed initially shows that 901 is a hybrid of Llongissima and Laminaria japonica. Then further experment has been done on 14 enzymes of their gametophytes. In 6 enzyme zymograms, 901 has a locus in accordance with Llongissima and a locus in accordance with Laminariajaponica in 2 enzyme zymograms, and quite different with other varieties. In conclusion, 901 is a hybrid hybridized between L.longissima and Laminariajaponica.Comparative experiment on 901 and the control 860 and Rongl show:Fast growing speed: with mean daily growth of 6.13cm, 901 is 75-91% higher than that of the 2 control group, 3.54cm and 3.21cm respectively.High temperature tolerance and decline-rot-resistance: The slough of total length of 901 accounts for 15.2% of itself growing length, but that of the 2 control accounts for 37.4% and 41.2% respectively..Big body: with mean length, mean width and mean thickness is 625cm, 32cm and 2.12mm respectively, yield(dry without salt) of 901 is 3300kg, respectively 69.8% and 79.7% higher than that of the 2 control.Analysis of nutrition and amino acid components hi 901 and its parent kelp showed: all of the other nutritious components are higher than those in the parent kelp, except the fat lower.
