| The breakthrough of quality improvement was found by compared with the major difference in characters between 18 erect head Japonica varieties in Jiangsu and 18 bending head Japonica varieties in Japan. The basis for selection of the erect head varieties on quality breeding were provided by analyzed the genetic correlation of the characters in three DH populations and varieties between China and Japan .The quality improvement was carried out by anther culture breeding and grouping selective breeding .The results showed that there were significant difference between erect head varieties and bending varieties in the most of ear agronomic characters,economic characters ,quality characters and RVA profile characters. Erect head varieties had higher productivity, but bending varieties had higher quality. There almost had transgressive in the characters of three DH populations . The heritabilities of the quality characters were relatively higher than that of productive characters. The chalkness could be selected in early progeny because the heritabilities of the chalkness was highest in quality characters. The genetic correlation showed that it was not closely correlated between ear curvature degree and yield or quality, which suggested that it was possible to improve the quality of the erect head varieties with high yield by introducing the quality gene of the bending varieties of Japan. The quality had no significant difference except brown rice rate and the erect head line had higher yield by compared with erect head lines and bending lines of F4 from the same F3.Based on all the results above , it was a effective way to improve the quality of erect panicle type lines with high seed setting percentage, mid neck-panicle diameter, mid 1000-grain weight, lower brown rice width, higher length/width and mid spikelets panicle .The high-yield and high-quality in erect panicle type Japonica line could be selected by anther culture or group selective breeding. |
