| Maize is largely used in livestock and poultry feed , which provide much protein in their diets. The quality of protein in maize, therefore, makes great contribution to the quality of feed. The quality of protein in common com is inferior. In order to improve the protein quality of maize, the quality protein maize, a new feed resource, has recently been developed in China, which contains more lysine and tryptophan than common corn. Few studies on its nutritional values have been carried out yet. The purpose of this thesis is to study the nutritional value of quality protein maize, its effects on broiler performance and carcass characteristics in order to accelerate utilization of quality protein maize in animal feeding. This paper consisted of four experiments.Experiment I. Evaluation on metabolisable energy of quality protein maize. This experiment was carried out to determinate the metabolizable energy values of quality protein maize (QPM) and common corn (CC). 16 Hy-line Brown adult roosters of 400-day-old were randomly divided into 2 treatments of 4 replicates each. The main results were summarized as follows.Gross energy (GE) of QPM and CC were 18.80MJ/kg and 18.85MJ/kg, respectively. AME and AMEn of QPM were higher than those of CC (P>0.10). TME value of QPM and CC were 16.29 MJ/kg and 16.30 MJ/kg respectively ( P>0.10).Metabolic rate of GE, AME, AMEn, TME and TMEn in QPM were higher than those of CC, their values were 77.26% and 76.45%, 77.74% and 76.89%, 86.81% and 86.50%, 86.53% and 86.26%, respectively ( P>0.10).These indicate that there was no significant difference in the energy utilization between QPM and CC (P>0.10). |
