Photoinhibition is the key factor in reducing photosynthetic productivity of agronomic crops including rice. It is of significant importance to discover and clone the photoprotective genes of rice in molecular biology research and molecular breeding.Gene differential expression of rice under photoinhibition was studied by means of mRNA differential display. Furthermore 3 pieces of cDNA segment were cloned, named Z8, Z9 and Z10 respectively, which were testified to be positive in southern bolt. In addition, the result of blasting the four sequences in Genbank-NCBI and Rice GD indicated that Z8 and Z9 were homologous to rice gene for adhl-adh2 region and gene for cytosolic monodehydroascorbate reductase correspondingly. These three cDNA were inferred to be photoprotective genes or relevant photoprotecting genes in photoprotection. Z10 was homologous to transport protein (cysQ) gene of Escherichia coli. However the function of Z10 in mechanism of photoprotection still has no reasonable presumption up to now.Z8, Z9 and Z10 were submitted to Genbank, and the accession numbers acquired were AY189692, AY189693 and AY189694, respectively. Of three sequences, AY 189693 and 189694 had been released.
