| A survey was conducted on grass beetles associated with dung-breeding flies in cowpats in native range pastures of Inner Mongolia during May to November 2001. Cowpats infected naturally for 24 hours from different pastures were collected with a 2-week interval. Cow pat samples were incubated for 6 weeks. All emerging insects were collected and identified. The insects were sorted into beetles, flies and others. Among the flies, the three major dung-breeding pests, Haenabia, Musca and Stomoxys were identifited. 10 grass beetles were also classified. The predominant species of Hydrophilidae beetle were selected and reared in the laboratory for conducting predative trials on flies. The results of laboratory trials for predation efficacy by these beetles are reported. A biological control measurement for dung-breeding flies is suggested according to the investigation. |
