Aiming at resistance to mechanical damage(RMD) in processing tomato fruit, according to the results of preparing tests, 8 characteristics from 4 aspects of RMD were put forward, and methods about their measurements were provided. 27 processing tomato cultivars(breeding lines) were used as materials, and 26 quantitative characteristics of their fruit were tested and analysed, which were divided into the resistance to mechanical damage factor(RMDF), the shape and structure factor(SSF), and the fruit qulity factor(FQF). The studies on these characteristics gave some appropriate methods for quantificationally testing RMDF in processing tomato fruit, and discussed genetic behaviors of these characteristics and relationships among them, and valued RMDF of these cultivars (breed lines). The studies provided some theoretical basis and concrete direction for breeding better cultivars in RMDF.Genetic parameters of 26 characteristics and correlation between charateristics were investigated,and the investigation showed that there were apparent differences among these characteristics in heritability, coefficient of genetic variation , genetic advance and correlation.The relation among 8 characteristics in RMDF were studied by factor analysis, and the factor analysis provided more definite relationships among these characteristics than correlation analysis on RMDF.Canonical correlation analysis between RMDF and SSF, and FQF showed that there were significantly correlation between RMDF and SSF,and FQF.System cluster analysis and multiple comparison analysis were used in studies on materials, and 27 cultivars(breed lines) were classified as 5 categories in RMDF by system cluster analysis. W22 and W23 are the best materials in the 27 cultivals(breed lines), and they can be used to improve RMDF of other cultivars.
