Study On Improving Seed Yield Of Xinjiang Bermudagrass

Xinjiang Bermudagrass, including Yili and Kashi ecological variety, which were acclimated and selected by Xinjiang Agricultural University researcher ,were precious turfgrass resources .Their main trait was high drought-resistance,tolerable of stamping and low salt ,especially cold-resistance. Experiment showed that they could survive -32℃ in Urumqi, But their sexual reproduction capability was very poor and seed yield was low.In order to exploit them, seed productive character of Xinjiang Bermudagrass was observed and wild Bermudagrass seed production property was determined, how to improve Xinjiang Bermudagrass' seed yield by spraying plant growth regulator, irrigation, mowing, fertilizing were studied. Results showed: 1. Xinjiang Bermudagrass' seed yield could increase by spraying 50ppm 2,4-D or 200ppm GA3 during tiller-stem elongation period. 2.Different irrigation times had significant influence on seed productive property. Yili ecological variety could harvest the most seeds,382.5 Kg/hm2, by irrigation one time, 6-7 times than irrigation three time. while Kashi ecological variety could reach the highest seed yields,508.3 Kg/hm2,only with the rainfall(230mm)of urumqi,4-5 times than irrigation three time. 3. During tiller-stem elongation period, different heights of mowing had great effect on the seed yield of Yili ecological variety (P<0.01).In all treats, the best was 3cm heights and seed yield was 571.3Kg/hm2, 33.57% more than CK. 4.Different frequency of mowing made a notable impact on the productive ability of seed of Yili ecological variety(P<0.01).Results indicated that one time was best and seed yield was 723.9Kg/hm2, 69.25% more than CK. 5.Wild Bermudagrass had low thousand seed weight,heading rate, seed set, especially seed set. The highest was only 10.14%,while domesticate Bermudagrass could reach 53.27%-71.84%, 5-7 times more than wild ones . Thousand-seed weight increased from less than 0.3g to more than 0.4g., heading rate also raise 100-300 percent. seed yield increased significantly,15-33 times more than wild ones.
