Two trials were conducted to evaluate the solubility, protection of N-HMM-Ca and to determine the effects of supplemental N-HMM-Ca on diet nutrient Metabolism. In trial 1, by simulating the pH value in sheep gastrointestinal tract, N-HMM-Ca was soluble in seven kind of digestible liquids with seven pH value (8.14, 7.0, 6.5, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 2.9) respectively to determine the solubility at five times (1 h, 2h, 4h, 6h, I 2h ) . Results showed that solubility of N-HMM-Ca changed little at 5.5 pH<6.5, less than 65% at two hour; changed slowly at pH~ 6.5, less than 40% at two hour; changed sharply at pH2.9, almost 100% at one hour. In trial 2, to verify the protection , absorptivity and availability of N-HMM-Ca and its influence on diet nutrient digestibility, four Gansu wool-meat type fine-wool wether (fitted with abomasal cannual ) were assigned in a 4 X 5 Youden square design to one of the following five treatments: 1) No Methionine or N-HMMM-Ca infused; 2) 2gId Methionine abomasally infused; 3) 3g/d N-HMMM-Ca abomasally infused; 4) 2g/d Methiomne ruminally infused; 5) 3g/d N-HMM-Ca ruminally infused. Treatment 5 decreased (p0.05) .Compared with other four treatments, N retention (g/d and %as a percentage of N in-take) ,was increased (p>O.OS) in treatment 5, due to increased N digestibility. Response of free amino acid in plasma showed that there was a trend for greater total free amino acid for 3g/d N-HMM-Ca ruminally infused (treatment 5) , compared with other four treatments. Free Methionine concentration in treatment 5 reached its highest value within 3 hours after intake. The results of the two trials suggest that the N-HMM-Ca used in this study are protected from ruminal degradation , are available past-ruminally and can improve ruminal environment. This study shows a bright prospect for N-HMM-Ca to be used in large scale in ruminants...
