Songnen Plain is located in the northern part of Northeast China, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia four provinces across, is one of the important commodity grain base in China.By utilizing the remote sensing data of the Songnen Plains of China desertification were analyzed in Daqing, Suihua, Harbin, Jiamusi, Qitaihe, Hegang, Yichun, seven city as the research object, select the MODIS remote sensing data, using the ERDAS remote sensing analysis software, through the calculation of remote sensing image correction, vegetation index, land desertification index calculation, to carry out dynamic monitoring of land desertification in the study area, reveal the spatial pattern of desertification of Songnen Plain of regional land resources and its dynamic changes and changes in the quantity and spatial variation and change direction, on the ecological environment preserving nursing research and sustainable utilization of regional land resources management has important significance.The first part of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of remote sensing technology and its application in desertification monitoring, and to study the vegetation index of the present study. In the second part of the paper, the characteristics of MODIS data, and the characteristics of the data, the establishment of NDVI vegetation index model, the further vegetation coverage and desertification index model. Selection of MODIS data in 2009 and 2014, data preprocessing, NDVI calculation, the calculation of vegetation index and the calculation of desertification index, the information of land desertification in the study area, and the dynamic monitoring of land desertification in the study area. The third part, on the land desertification in Songnen Plain, natural factors and human factors. Analysis causes of land desertification, provide reference for the prevention and control of desertification.Studies show that in 2009 and 2014 in Songnen Plain Desert the distribution situation of the overall improvement, the smaller of land desertification in the central region, Western and eastern region of land desertification is heavy, Midwest and northeast area, the vegetation index reached the lowest value, the land desertification of serious. From 2009 to 2014 the five years dynamic change, land desertification has improved, water area has increased greatly, can increase the basin’s water storage capacity, enhance flood control and drought relief ability. Saline alkali land area decreased, and desertification is low, the value of the larger area increased, desertification degree improved.
