Research On The Points' Functions In Architecture Form Design

Point is a common kind element of the architectural design. An architect can enrich the architectural formal languages of him (or her) and facilitate the originalities of his (or her) architectural forms by reasonably applying such kind architectural element—point. Therefore, it become a very hot subject with practical meaning and signification for today's architectural design theory to resolve how to correctly understand the point of architecture and reasonably applied it to the design of architectural forms.Firstly, the dissertation has defined the concept of architectural point from a cognitive view. It has enabled us to establish a basic rational cognition of the architectural point through detailed analyzing the performances of point of different architectural styles and at different times, the major factors for point to generate and associated theorem about architectural point. Then, according to the different visual performance characters of points in the architectures, this dissertation has divided the points into two major categories- explicit and implicit. From above two categorical aspects, the author has analyzed and generalized the characteristics and roles of architectural points more clearly and objectively. Thirdly, by studding the morphological properties of explicit points we can form more in-depth understanding of this kind of points. Based on the above research, the author has discussed the types of morphological construction and roles of explicit points and by examples made the discussion more visualization. Finally, this dissertation has analyzed and generalized the properties of the implicit points themselves, and established the more in-depth understanding of them. Also, the author has made a vivid narration about the generation types and roles of explicit points in architectural design process. This can play important role to help us apply implicit points during the architectural design process. In addition, the dissertation has still discussed the transforming of architectural points from explicit to implicit, pointed out that this transformation process is possible, and analyzed such transformation from the guiding principles, ways and means, and significance aspects.Generally, based an objective analysis of the examples, this dissertation has summarized the generation factors, properties and construction types of points in architectural designs, and objectively present the functional effects of them. The aims of this dissertation is to build the scientific cognitive and application system of points in architectural forms design field and make the points such architectural elements to make better serve to the architectural designs with more original and polarization.
