| Housing is a kind of physical space for human beings to adapt to the nature and lead a normal life. The advancement of human civilization records the development of housing. "Architectural design begins and ends in housing." Housing design plays a vital role in the development of society. Since the reform and opening up, China's urban housing construction has entered a new stage. The type of housing transformed from "subsistence" to "well-off", "quantity" to "quality-oriented", "distributive" to "market-oriented." The past decade has witnessed great development in residential buildings of Xuzhou, especially the commercial housing market.This paper is divided into four chapters to study and explore houses in Xuzhou.Chapter one sets out the evolution of our housing-related policies and research on housing at home and abroad. It also illustrates the development of housing types in Xuzhou over the past 10 years as well as the content, methods, and significance of this research.Chapter two sets out the factors which have great impact on housing types in Xuzhou. This part is divided into two sections:the impact of changes in housing function on housing types, and the impact of family life on housing design.Chapter three focuses on analysis of some typical cases in Xuzhou housing market. This part concludes the principles and vital elements of urban housing design through analysis of housing space.Chapter four analyzes residential development trends in Xuzhou. This part raises some questions and personal opinions to arouse people's deep thinking about urban housing construction.In summary, this paper started from Xuzhou housing construction, particularly the commodity housing construction to explore ways to adhere to scientific,rational and people-oriented design principles in the courrent large-scale housing construction. This paper is looking forward sustainable development in future Xuzhou housing construction which focus on improving people's living environment.
