The energy-based analysis of earthquake-resistance design can reflect the accumulative damage caused by the continuous time of the earthquake. Transmission, conversion and absorption(dissipation) of earthquake energy are the fundamental characteristics of the structure seismic response. The analytic method of structural seismic energy responses is increasingly attached importance to the international seismic engineering research, and regarded as development tendency in structural seismic design theory. This paper analysized the ordinary RC frame structures with CANNY program in the viewpoint of energy. Through the energy analysis of four-story,eight-story and twelve-story frame structures, preliminary study of the hysteretic energy distribution characteristics was executed in the floors, beams and columns. At some selected timepoints, these characteristics were investigated further. The study found that the characteristics of hysteretic energy of RC frame structures had a great relation with the structural properties and seismic input.Through the energy response analysis of three frame structures under input of 31 different ground motion records, the relationship of the hysteretic energy and damping energy with the total input energy was studied, and the relational expression of the hysteretic energy and damping energy was given based on the model in this article, with coefficient factors in the expression preliminary studied. The study showed that the hysteretic energy and damping energy had a good linear relationship with the total input energy. Besides, the unit mass of energy response was preliminary studied in this paper, the study showed that unit mass of multi-degree of freedom system had a good consistent relationship, the energy response of structure was proportional to its mass to a certain extent.
