| As one of the most important suppliers for electrical connectors globally, Foxconn proposes a 15000 times mechanical life for USB 3.0 connector at the beginning of design. It is so forward-looking for that the latest requirement on USB mechanical life is 8000 times. It's vital for Foxconn to enhance its competition and expand its market share, which also can help Foxconn to be a leading supplier in this area.This thesis mainly focused on the following items: finding the main factors affecting the mechanical life based on the analysis and test on current design; analyzing the mating and un-mating mechanism of USB connector; drafting the proposal on structure and material for USB 3.0; studying the affection to mechanical life by contact surface, contact coating, contact elasticity and housing; setting the length and angle of shell cantilever by simulation analysis through computer; choosing the best contact coating; improving the combination between the housing and the metal parts; producing samples for function test and validation.The results show that the mechanical life of new design can reach 15000 times. And the achievements in this research are good for practical use. |
