Automotive, which we call to change the world, are along with human beings through more than 100 years. Vehicle lights are not only played the role of lighting the road ahead, but also prominently in the vehicle front. Like the eyes, they played an important role to decorate the vehicle. This paper studied the historical evolutional process of the modeling of car headlights. The modeling characteristic of car headlights has been researched based on the analysis of typical model in different periods. The evolution causes of headlights had been analyzed in the aspects of headlight's shape, location, material and color. And the development trends of the vehicle headlight design had been summarizedThis paper makes a theoretical analysis to the modeling of car lights. This paper studied the relationship of the modeling of the cars and the modeling of the car lights according to the systematic design principles. This paper explained the features of different types of car lights by classifying the cars by the styles and the product country. This paper studied the brand inheritances of the modeling of car lights based on the theory of product family. Take the example of the BMW, the Porsche, the Mercedes-Benz, the Volvo ext. to explain that car lights design should carry forward their brand modeling elements. This paper also analysis the modeling of the car lights from the emotional design theory. This paper explained the facial expression of the cars lights and the emotional characteristic of the car lights. This paper analysis the color design principles of car lights, including the principle of laws and regulations, functional principles and humane principles. At the same time, this paper explained the materials used by car lights.
