| Flocculation reaction is a very important step during the water purification process in a water plant. The quality of the flocculator's designation will be related to the flocculation effect which has a direct impact on the effects of the subsequent treatment sedimentation and filtration. Therefore, it is very necessary to research and develop a new type of cost-effective flocculator at once.Firstly, the causes of the mechanism of flocculation and flocculation kinetics are introduced in this article, from which a conclusion could be derived like this: flow state has a major impact on flocculation effect of folded plate flocculator .Secondly, we produced a folded plate flocculator and five folded plate physical models with different angles. Folded plates with different angles and folded plate flocculator were combined together in order to measure it's flow field by PIV technique and then their accurate the structural characteristics of water flow will be got.It not only analyzes the flow field to study their characteristics and how they affect flocculation effect, but also explored how mechanism flow characteristics impact on flocculation effect. This research can provide strong technical support in some aspects as follows: the mechanism of flocculation, the improvement of flocculator's flow field, the flocculation effect, increase of flocculator's efficient space.Finally, in the sixteen folded plate flocculators combined with different folded plates (each of them with their own angle), we did five different turbidity raw water removal experiments respectively to verify the correctness of the result of PIV.By doing this research we come to a conclusion like this: by setting the 90°opposite folded plate as the first part and the 90°parallel corrugated folded plate as the second part will bring the best effect.It also provides a new researching method for folded plate flocculator and has an significant guidance for the actual engineering.
