Based on investigation, six representative shading materials have been chosen and experienced a shading experiment by an experimental station of Shenzhen Institute of Building Research. The materials have been devided into six sections; measured the shading data of each material both in the case of inside window shading and outside window shading, then caculated the Shading Coefficient (Sc) in terms of the recorded data. In view of Sc, solar radiation and indoor temperature, to research the performance difference between inside window shading and outside window shading synthetically.Research result shows that the inside window shading is inferior to outside window shading. Generally, the inside Sc of four targeted fibre glass is 1.2?1.6 times to its outside Sc, whose difference is varied in respose to the different reflectivity, absorptivity and porosity. The inside Sc of light yellow cloth curtain is 1.23 times to its outside Sc. The inside Sc of silver gray polished blind is 2.15 times to its outside Sc. If window takes shading, no matter inside shading or outside shading, either of them could contribute a lot to reduce solor radiation. Inside shading could block more than 60% solor radiation; outside shading could block around 75% solor radiation. This research is meaningful to theoretical and practical feild, which could provide theoretical foundation and basic data support for energy saving design and evaluation. Besides, the research result could give correct instruction to people while selecting the curtain shading material, which could both cut down the solor radiation and beautify the living environment, so as to boost the green building industry.
