Studies On The Methods Of Urban Park Renovation Design

Urban park, an important component of urban Greenland system and a substantial vehicle of cultural life of the residence, provides the function of leisure and entertainment. Under the circumstance of high speed economy expansion and urbanization, the traditional urban parks, built in 1950-1960, are confronted with unprecedented crisis because the new demands for urban park generated from new urban lives are getting higher and higher. Many problems such as landscape recession, facility obsolescence, eco-environment degradation have been accumulated in the traditional system. Furthermore, some problems on value and method are exposed from the government level. It's a focus to better maintain the urban parks' sustainability on ecology, landscape and culture and to meet the need of different users and in different periods as well. Therefore, to initiate a piece of research on how to renovate urban parks is an urgent issue. The research in this field in China is just in the start-up period by far and there are few systematic theories can be used for reference.This article reviews the development context of the urban parks, summarizes the features of urban park development, interprets the internal and external factors which force our urban parks to be renovated, and discovers the existing problems and particularity of renovation design. Through the classic case study, domestically and globally, based on the practical application of theories such as organic renewal, eco-restoration design, logical environmental behavior theory and sustainability, this article issues a structure on how to make renovation design of urban park.Conclusion:â…°) The renovation design is different from new planning. Adjustment, optimization and innovation must be well considered on the basis of inherit and in the principle of existing conditions. Main methods: firstly, survey and assessment of existing conditions must be undertaken. Secondly, the orientation of renovation target must be analyzed. Thirdly, the extent of renovation must be quantitatively analyzed. Fourthly, renovation design should pay attention to integrate the park with urban public space, optimize the structure of space and renew the landscape elements as terrain, water, plants, roads, buildings and infrastructure. Some problems as disorder of layout, degeneration of eco-environment, neglect of historical and cultural value and landscape backward, must be solved. Fifthly, post occupancy evaluation must be done.â…±) Main content of renovation design: firstly, current situation should be protected and utilized logically. Secondly, ecosystem should avoid being destroyed. The cultural context should be discovered and maintained. Thirdly, the needs on behavior and spirit should be satisfied by expanding the function of urban parks and increasing the public space and humanity facilities. Fourthly, landscape quality should be promoted by current aesthetic, value and requirement. New material and technology should be applied in renovation design.Contribution: Through the classic case study in literature review, the on-site research of some renovation projects in Shanghai, and the focus group discussion with some sophisticated engineers, this article collected a great deal of technical materials, takes the relative theories as reference, and connects the real work experience to summarizes feasible method of renovation design of urban park. It provides a theoretical reference to the relative projects to be constructed.Main innovation: Firstly, the development context of the urban parks was concerned. The major underlying forces of parks, which forced them to be renovated, and the problems on value and methods of renovation design in current situation were analyzed. The new requirements for urban park development on city, economic, society and humanistic were thoroughly analyzed. Secondly, the methods of urban park renovation were summarized from both macro-perspective and micro-perspective on the basis of a great number of documentations.Because of the limitation on various aspects, the method of renovation design is just a framework. Some concrete problems such as the problems of urban parks'management generating from semi-open to full-open, the influence of the policy and regulations, and the renovation of obstacle-free facilities should be thoroughly analyzed in a deeper extent.
