Distributed Generation has been one of the most critical energy resources in power industry, with the promotion and utilization of the renewable, integration of which into distribution networks will change the topological structure of the system and bring new challenge to the present network. In this dissertation, influences of DG to the distribution network have been analyzed in detail, tested by the electrical software, ETAP. Besides, the multi agent technology has been applied to the relay protection, FDIR (Distribution Fault Detection, Isolation and Restoration), which is able to improve the ability of the protection.There are large number of DGs in the practical industry, however, several important DGs, more common seen and widely used, are discussed in this paper, and at the same time, the theory of some distribution network's protection are introduced. The structure of FDIR, the functions of agents, and the procedure have been studied, all of which will improve the protection's ability with the intelligence and cooperation of the agents. Therefore, protections could be accurate and in time when the faults happen, and the reliability and security of the network are improved. The method proposed in this dissertation will be a good reference for the protection research of future grid with distributed generaton.
