Red Clay, a regional special soil, has been 200 years' history since it was discovered. In China, red clay is widely distributed in the South. Red Clay itself has many special engineering specialities, such as high moisture content, high void ratio, low compression, high strength and so on.In Hainan island, most of the areas have the distribution of red clay, which is mainly formed by the laterization of Granite and Basalt. Located in the northern part of Hainan province, Lingshan Town is most covered by the red clay formed by Basalt. Though collecting the literatural materials in other areas, this paper has got physical and mechanical index data of the red clay and compared it with that of Lingshan. As the red Clay in Lingshan the research object, the paper gets the engineering properties of parameters of Lingshan red clay after carring out a series of soil tests. At the same time, the paper acquires the tress-strain relationship of Lingshan red clay by using the advanced U.S. LoadTracâ…¡triaxial and performing triaxial compression tests and triaxial stress path testing,. On the base of the triaxial test, the paper simulates the Duncun-Chang Model of Lingshan red clay. This paper has obtained the following important conclusions:(a) Taking soil tests of the red clay of Lingshan in Haikou, the paper gets a series of engineering properties, such as high water content, high void ratio, high liquid and plastic limits, medium compression, medium sensitivity and other parameters of engineering properties.(b) Running various stress path triaxial tests on the red clay of Lingshan in Haikou, this paper reveales the stress-strain relationship of red clay and gets the conclusion that the red clay has the Properties of contraction and dilation under the different stress paths test.(c) The paper studies on the constitutive model of the red clay of Lingshan in Haikou, discusses the Duncun-Chang model and the improved Duncun-Chang model and determinines all model parameters of two models. Compared the predicted values of two models with the measured values, the improved Duncun-Chang model could represent the stress-strain relationship of red clay of Lingshan in Haikou.
