Yingxian wooden pagoda locates in Fogong Temple, Ying County, Shanxi Province, and it has been listed the first batch of key historical sites under state protection. This pagoda was built in 1056, during the Liao Dynasty, and is the only existing wooden pavilion pagoda in the world. The total height of this pagoda is 67.13m. For its elegant shape and long history, it is highly praised at home and abroad.Because of the environment erosion and strong external force effect for nearly one thousand years, the material deteriorated and structural members was damaged severely, which led to the main structure obvious lateral displacement and torsion. According to the compulsory provisions about structural identification and strengthening of Technical code for maintenance and strengthening of ancient timber buildings, Yingxian wooden pagoda was evaluated classâ…£, the pagoda desiderate maintenance. Yingxian wooden pagoda was ranked as major project of historic preservation and maintenance in the outline of The State Eleventh Five-Year plan for construction of culture.The 440 bracket sets(Dougong), which Yingxian wooden pagoda adopted, are the important components and loaded parts of main structure of the pagoda. Researching on Dougong mechanical property by the numbers and developing the suitable simplified analysis model of bracket sets, which is an essential precondition for the mechanical analysis of integral structure of Yingxian wooden pagoda, and is significant to the maintenance and strengthening of the pagoda.This article selected the representative bracket sets in the pagoda as the investigating object, combined the physical model experiment with computer simulation, obtained the transferring mechanism and deformation characteristic of bracket sets, and proposed a new simplified analysis model of bracket sets that suitable for mechanical analysis of integral structure of the pagoda. This article had finished following research work:1. Research about the Dougong models by vertical loading test and horizontal low cyclic loading test, found out the main failure characteristics of the bracket sets, summarized the load transferring mechanism and deformation characteristic of bracket sets, summarized the main influencingfactors of compress stiffness and analyzed the lateral displacement characteristic and energy dissipation capability of the bracket sets.2. According to the vertical load transferring mechanism of bracket sets, fabricated some simplified models and had done tests in contrast with the Dougong models; through refining the mechanical property of simplified models, provided mechanical parameters for developing simplified analysis model.3. For the Dougong deformation characteristic under the combined action of vertical load and horizontal load, had done the FEM research of Dougong numerical analysis model to propose a simplified analysis model which can express the main mechanical properties of the bracket sets, such as properties of resist compression, resist lateral displacement and energy dissipation by friction.
