In this thesis, The dirt-accumulating character of the apparatus in power transmission system have been studied thoroughly based on the introduction of traditional method of measuring the dirtiness of transmission line. A new type of the device measuring insulator's dirt-density based on optical-electrical conversion technology had been successfully developed, its relative theory and designing proposal were also discussed in this thesis. The new-type device was improved and calibrated in accordance with the data of the tests in laboratory and on-site.This new-type dirt-density measuring device could effectively and correctly measure the equivalent dirt-density of transmission line, cooperated with the dirt-density on-line monitoring devices, which could monitor the dirt distribution of the transmission line in real time. The application of new-type dirt-density measuring device would be help of taking the effective cautions to reduce the probability of flashover accidents caused by over-dirt.
