Series compensation technology is a cost-effective means to improve power system stability limit. The power grid will produce sub-synchronous resonance(SSR) when introducing series compensation which will cause the coupling between grid and turbo-generator. This paper takes the 600MW generator and 500kV transmission line for study and has discussed the measures to inhibit SSR. The blocking filter will be installed at main transformer neutral point with protective device TSR to ensure the unit safe. The blocking filter installation method is also given in this paper. The simulation shows that the resonance frequency has nothing to do with the shaft natural frequency. The paper has discussed the influence of generator and transformer parameters to SSR frequency. A small resistance is presented in the mode reactor loop corresponding to blocking filter. The test has shown the validity of this method, which has been applied to the SSR inhibition for two units successfully.
