There are a number of problems associated with the disposal of waste from demolished structures. Some governments have even gone further by imposing tax on all wastes going to landfill. To arrest this problem, the concrete from the debris is recycled for use in new projects. This study involved concrete structures made from recycled concrete aggregate in climatic conditions that undergo freeze-thaw phenomenon. Freeze-thaw results of plain concrete beam from previously conducted experiments were used for analysis. From the previous experimental results, it was observed that recycled aggregate concrete have relatively lower strength compared to those made from natural aggregate. A detailed study of concrete structure made from recycled aggregate in freeze-thaw prone region is thus necessary. A mathematical model for failure caused by freeze/thaw phenomenon was developed. This model makes it, in principle, feasible to determine cracking due to freezing on the basis of the stresses in the solid structure of concrete. Solution of the differential equations presented would require finite-element computer analysis. An analytical model of unreinforced concrete made from recycled aggregate was performed based on the data available from previous experiments. A three dimensional finite element was then performed using ANSYS general finite element program and the results compared with experimental results. Input data in ANSYS model were based on the experimental results. Results from ANSYS compared well with experimental results...
