The paper introduced what domestic and international have done on auto lightweight and collision, and what they have achieved-which ways and theories they have used. Then combining with the project, the paper elaborated the meaning of lightweight and collision about LPG tanker running system, and introduced finite element theory about auto lightweight and collision. And then the content and objective were proposed.Then, the paper introduced the LPG tanker running system's structures geometry size and working conditions. According to the requirements of enterprises, an idea of using Finite Element Method(FEM)to accomplish running system lightweight and rear under-run protective device crashed simulation after lightweight had been done。Also the paper analyzed the computer platform and the software.According to the drawings provided by enterprises, the paper established the lightweight model of the running system. Considering the calculated scale and computation time, without affecting the accuracy, the running system structure had been simplified, ignoring the structure having little impact on the calculation accuracy part to improve computational efficiency. At the same time in the establishment of the model need to consider the unit type and the connection between the components. Then full-shell models of the running system had been established and the connections between various components consider rigid connection. And the right cell size and shape related to the finite element calculation accuracy and computational efficiency and the model was meshed by shell elements. At last, the stiffness and strength of the original structure about two kinds of working conditions was studied and the lightweight potential of the running system were analyzed.By analyzing the original structure of the running system, the lightweight work involved the axle and the main part of the frame. And analyzing the load of the axles, the paper reselected the right axles for the running system. By changing size of various components, the running system achieves the purpose of reducing the weight, and then the stiffness and strength is checked. At last, the overall structure's strength and stiffness taking all the parts as integrated was analyzed and calculated. By comparing the improving structure and the original structure analysis and calculation results, the strength and rigid of improvement design was not obvious lower than the original structure's. After that, the material of the running system took good use and the running system weight is reduced 142.67kg, which is 17.76% of the original structure.Finally, the crashworthiness research was done on the rear under-run protective device of the lightweight running system. The deformation, speed and acceleration of the backend of the protective device of the running system during rear-end impact are simulated and the improvement design had carried out.The simulation results are compared to determine the suitable scheme that can satisfy the national standard and security requirement.This research not only provides a typical LPG tanker running system lightweight calculation model and calculation method to solve the practical problems of enterprises. What's more, the paper provides enterprises with a practical lightweight research programs, improving competitiveness of their products, reducing product cost and enhance the design of the enterprise level. At the same time, the paper study about crashworthiness of the rear under-run protective device after lightweight. The lightweight and the crashworthiness after lightweight research is a comprehensive study attempt of the running system.And that will give the same products reference value.
